Police detain, question 2 men after apparent pipe bomb explodes in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa police are investigating a possible pipe bomb explosion in Tampa Wednesday afternoon.

The explosion occurred in the backyard of a home at 1019 E 17th Avenue around 4:25 p.m.

Police found remnants of PVC pipe outside of the home. The explosion left a divot in the ground.

Police have detained and are interviewing two men found in the home who may have been involved in the explosion.

There are currently no reports of injuries or property damage.

At this time, no arrests have been made.

The TPD bomb squad and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosions and the FBI will remain on scene until they are able to conduct a search of the house.
