Police: Nearly 60 pounds of weed found in luggage at Nashville airport

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man traveling from Los Angeles to Nashville was taken into custody Thursday for allegedly trying to bring drugs into the Music City.

According to an arrest affidavit, Jose Medina Ayala allowed authorities to search his bags once he landed in Nashville after information that he may be trafficking drugs.

While searching police and DEA agents found 51 vacuum sealed bags of marijuana weighing more than one pound each. All the bags together weighed just under 60 pounds.

Ayala also had $2,870 in cash on him.

The report says there was a heavy sent of Febreeze in the bag with the marijuana. 

Metro drug detection K-9, Boston, was able to smell the marijuana and assisted officers in locating the drugs.
