Proposed bill to consolidate school districts 55, 56 in Laurens Co. tabled

LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Laurens County legislators have decided to table a proposal to consolidate school districts 55 and 56 for now.

The two bills, filed by Rep. Mike Pitts, would have consolidated the two school districts and given county council financial power.

Pitts told 7News after meeting with delegation on Monday, they decided to form an advisory committee to study the consolidation and get input from the community and school districts.

According to Pitts, they hope to bring the idea back up in the statehouse in January.
