UNION Co., SC (WSPA) – Heavy rains washed away part of a road in Union County.
Jason Childers, engineer with the S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT), a section of Mount Lebanon Road collapsed after rain water washed away material beneath the road. It happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday, blocking Mount Lebanon at Highway 215 and Putnam Road.
Childers said the road will remain closed until repairs can be made. There was no timeline on when repairs will be completed.
A detour has been put in place.
SCDOT provided the following detour route: Beginning at intersection of Highway 215 (Buffalo West Springs Hwy.) and Mt Lebanon Road, continue Northwest on Highway 215 for 1.54 miles to Putnam Road. Turn left onto Putnam Road and proceed south for 1.61 miles to Mt. Lebanon Road.
