GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Two newly completed rental homes in Greenville are helping lessen the wait for affordable housing.
Genesis Homes held a ribbon-cutting at one of the houses that just passed its final inspection.
The homes are located in the Greenline-Spartanburg and Nicholtown neighborhoods.
These homes go to families who were on the waiting list as the city continues to try and address what’s become an affordable housing crisis.
“It’s a huge step for the family that gets to move into this house,” Austin Goforth, chairman of Genesis Homes, said. “It’s a small step for the amount of houses vs. the need that’s there. But, like I said, we’re trying to do our part.”
The city did help fund the project along with the money from the state and federal agencies like HUD.
Genesis said more homes are on the way, and in the construction phase.
