SPARTANBURG Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A Cowpens man was arrested on outstanding warrants for armed robbery and a weapons charge at a traffic safety checkpoint.
Deputies assisted with the checkpoint at the intersection of Old Georgia Road and Basswood Drive on New Year’s Day.
A Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office report says a car was stopped by troopers because the driver did not have a license.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Brandon Michael Cobb, gave officers permission to search the car.
Officers reportedly found a baggy containing residue of a crystal like substance, ski masks, gloves, and women’s jewelry.
A name search revealed Cobb was wanted on outstanding bench warrants for armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in a robbery at the Walmart store in Boiling Springs that was reported in January 2018.
According to a separate report, the suspect in that case pulled a knife on loss prevention officers when he was caught taking headphones and a USB hub.
The suspect in that case was driving a car that matched the description of the one Cobb was driving at the safety checkpoint stop.
Cobb was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Wednesday morning, according to jail records.
