POLK Co., N.C. (WSPA) — Troopers say a truck driver has been charged in a crash that claimed the life of a Rutherfordton woman.

The victim has been identified as Lindsay Cooper, 30, of Rutherfordton, N.C.

Master Trooper Murico Stephens said Cooper was driving a Nissan Sentry when she crashed into the back of a box truck on westbound US-74 near Highway 9 on Monday morning.

Cooper died at the scene.

Troopers say the driver of the box truck, identified as Alfredo Baute, 51, of Charlotte, N.C., stopped the truck for unknown reasons.

Baute was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and illegally stopping in the roadway, according to troopers.

Polk County 911 Communications Center asked people to avoid the area if possible in a Facebook post
