Sailor injured in shooting at NAS Oceana, shooter dead


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Officials say a shooter is dead after a female sailor was injured in a shooting Friday morning Naval Air Station Oceana.

Beth Baker with Navy Region Mid-Atlantic said a female sailor was shot during an isolated domestic incident that happened at the base around 6:45 a.m.

She was taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and her injuries are not considered life-threatening. The shooter, a male sailor, was shot and killed by security officers, Baker said.

A news conference is expected to be held at 9:45 a.m. 

The base was placed on lockdown during the incident, but it has since been lifted.
