School is out for the summer, and parents we are here to help. We know it’s hard to keep the kids occupied, especially if you’re trying to keep your budget. So we went in search of activities that won’t break the bank.
Here’s how you can take advantage of special summertime deals for the kids in this 7 News Consumer Watch:
“Kids Bowl Free” is one of many summer programs that’s easy on your wallet while your children play hard. Lots of places participate, like Paradise Lanes in Spartanburg.
“It’s 2 free games every day except Saturday during the summer and it runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” said Lori Gambler at Paradise Lanes.
The only thing you pay for are the $3 shoes, unless you have your own.
2) Movie Theater Discounts
Then there’s the Summer Movie Express program at Regal Cinemas. Kids get in for just $1 for the 10 a.m. showings of certain kid-friendly movies every Tuesday and Wednesday.
3) Online Discounts
For other ideas, start with the discounts at sites like Groupon. Right now, they have more than 25 kids activity deals within driving distance, with everything from jump houses to zip lines.
4) Water Parks and More
Look for discount tickets in local magazines, or save $100 bucks on multi-activity passes.
“These discounts we are offering this summer is with the Greenville Drive, it’s called a playcation package, so the package is not only with the water parks but the Greenville Zoo and the Greenville Drive and the history museum,” said Beth Scheimann at Discovery Island Water Park in Simpsonville.
5) Social Calendars:
Jennifer Smith, a mother of two, has joined social calendars on Facebook that clue her in to day-of discounts.
“I’ll try to come up with as many different things as I can and a good variety,” she said.
6) Movies In the Park
Cities like Spartanburg and Greenville offer free movies almost every weekend in the summer.
So while the kids are taking a break from the classroom, the lesson to parents is there’s lots of fun options that are easy on the wallet while the kids play hard.
