Governor Henry McMaster showed his support Tuesday morning, 2 bills that would put the state’s Department of Veterans Affairs under new leadership.
Right now the department is housed under the Department of Administration.
The 2 bills; one filed in the House and one in the Senate want to make of the department a cabinet agency.
Military members and lawmakers advocated to a crowd at the State House why this change benefits our veterans.
“It’s important to the pentagon. It’s important to the department of defense. It’s important that our veterans through a cabinet agency have the status, attention and focus that’s important to kepeing South Carolina strong,” explained Governor Henry McMaster.
Both the House and Senate versions of the BILL are in military affairs committees. There are about 500,000 veterans living in the state.
