SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) — A teacher at Summerville High School was arrested, accused of assaulting a student in the classroom.
Summerville High School head boys basketball coach and history teacher James Gregory Elliott is charged with third-degree assault. Authorities say the incident took place on December 7.
Pat Raynor, spokeswoman for Dorchester District Two, issued the following statement:
Immediately upon learning of a classroom incident between a student and teacher at Summerville High, administration reported the incident to local law enforcement. The district has placed the teacher on administrative leave with pay while the incident is being investigated. In addition, the district is cooperating fully with law enforcement in their investigation of the incident.
Elliott is currently out on a $1,087.50 personal recognizance bond.
