SC pension calculations may be unconstitutional says AG

COLUMBIA, SC (WSPA) – The State Attorney General says the way the pension system’s future liabilities and contribution rates are being calculated is potentionally unconstitutional.

State Treasurer Curtis Loftis sought the ruling because he blames the accounting methods used for the system’s $40 billion shortfall.

He is now asking state lawmakers to force compliance with current state law and avoid burying SC in more debt.
