SC woman who stole baby in FL sentenced

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WSPA) – A South Carolina woman who stole a newborn from a Florida hospital and raised the child as her own was sentenced to prison.

Gloria Williams received an 18-year sentence for kidnapping and five years for interfering with custody. The sentences will run concurrently and Williams will receive credit for the 511 days she’s served since her arrest.

Kamiyah Mobley was kidnapped in 1998 from a hospital in Jacksonville.

Williams, 52, testified that she disguised herself as a nurse and took the baby out of the hospital in a bag.

Williams raised Mobley in South Carolina.

The Associated Press reports that Mobley did not know her identity until she tried getting a driver’s license, but had no valid Social Security card of birth certificate.
