UNION Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A Union man wired more than $460 to make a warrant “go away” in a scam.
A Union County Sheriff’s Office report says the victim friended a female on Facebook who messaged him sexual photos and asked for photos of his genitals. The victim refused to send her the graphic images and blocked her, according to the report.
Someone claiming to be a Florence County deputy texted the victim and threatened to issue a warrant because the female was underage, the report says.
The victim was told the warrant would go away if he sent $463.41 from a Western Union.
After sending the money, the victim was told to send $200 more. That’s when he called 911.
Union County deputies spoke to the officer who allegedly texted the victim. The officer stated he received several calls Monday about the same complaint.
The scam is under investigation.
