GREENVILLE CO., SC (WSPA) – Deputies are warning people to be aware of fraudulent phone calls from people pretending to be with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says the scammers use the actual names of Greenville County deputies.
During the phone calls, the scammers request that people meet them and pay a fine in order to avoid going to jail.
“We want to remind everyone that the Sheriff’s Office will never solicit citizens over the phone and request payments,” said the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office in a statement.
If you get any calls like this, you should hang up and call the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office front desk and 864-467-5300 to file a report.
