MACON COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – Several items were seized at the home of a Franklin High School student, who was taken into custody on Tuesday after admitting to writing a hit list, during a search by authorities on Wednesday.

According to a search warrant, deputies responded to Union Alternative School around 8:35 a.m. to speak to the school resource officer in regards to the hit list he received from one of the students.

Two students went to the SRO’s office on Tuesday and one of the students said he had obtained the hit list from his girlfriend who got the list from the accused student’s backpack on the bus.

The student told the SRO that he “became fearful and was concerned about his safety and the other students on this “list.”

The other student said he knew that the accused student had access to several guns and knew how to use them.

According to the warrant, the list contained one of the names of the two students who reported it to the SRO and 13 other individuals.

The list was reportedly labeled, “Hit List #2.”

The SRO then left Union and went to Franklin High School where the accused is a student there.

The SRO, accompanied by a second SRO, got the accused student from his classroom and took him to the office.

According to the document, the accused student said “that he had every intention of causing harm to the people on the ‘Hit List.'”

A search of the student’s backpack revealed a small, black journal with another hit list labeled “Hit List #3.”

The list reportedly contained some of the same names from the “Hit List #2,” but also had additional names on it.

The student was read his rights and detectives conducted an interview.

For a second time, the student said he had every intention of harming the individuals named on the list.

The student also told detectives that “he had a temper that his parents had discussed with him in the past.”

According to the warrant, the student said the names of the individuals on the list were there because they had hurt his girlfriend, and said he loved her and was protective of her.

The student told detectives that he “blacks out when he gets angry.”

The high school student told detectives that he had access to several firearms at his home, including two rifles in his closet in his room and ammunition.

According to the document, the student said he knew the access code to his family’s gun closet, which contains several weapons, and said he had been thinking about this for around 2 to 3 years.

The student told authorities that if he was given the opportunity, he would harm the people listed on the hit list.

The student’s girlfriend was interviewed and admitted that she knew about the hit lists, as well as a few of the people named on the list.

The student also said she knew the accused student wanted to hurt the people that hurt her, and confirmed that the student was protective of her.

The following was posted on the Macon Co. Schools’ Facebook page on Tuesday in regards to the incident:

“This morning, Macon County Schools Administration was given access to a list of students whom the creator of the list intended harm. The Franklin High School student who wrote the list has been detained and Macon County Sheriff’s Deputies, Detectives and SROs are on campus at Franklin High School. Individuals named on the list, and their parents, are being notified individually. The situation is under control.”

The sheriff’s office shared the school district’s post on the department’s Facebook page around 2:20 pm Tuesday and said phone calls were being made to parents by the school system.
