BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC (WSPA)- Buncombe County officials have received more than 100 tips they’re hoping will lead to the arrest of a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman on a hiking trail.
Authorities say the victim, a 64-year old woman, was found tied to a tree May 14 near the Craggy Mountain area, along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Investigators arrested a man, but later released him. The trail was reopened to hikers and a sketch was placed in the visitor Center.
Three weeks after the attack, National Park Service Investigators confirmed the victim was sexually assaulted. Investigators told 7 News they made that decision because they didn’t want to compromise the case.
