Search for suspect in Nichols leads to officer-involved shooting


NICHOLS, S.C. (WBTW) – The search for a shooting suspect led to an officer-involved shooting in Nichols on Monday morning. 

Horry County Police had begun the search for the suspect after a report of shots fired at about 6 a.m. The incident happened in the area of Creek Landing Road.

At that time, the call was for an armed individual who was believed to have taken shots at several items of personal property and threatened others. 

After arriving, officers located the armed suspect in the woods. As a result of the incident, there was an officer-involved shooting, according to Mikayla Moskov, public information officer.

One person has been taken to the hospital. 

No officers have been injured. 

Police ask the community to continue to avoid the area throughout the day while they conduct their investigation.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will be launching an investigation.
