Search underway for baby’s body in Greenville Co. landfill

JOHNSTON, SC (WSPA) – A news agency is reporting that a woman dumped the body of a 6-month-old baby into a dumpster that was taken to a landfill in Greenville County.

According to WRDW/WAGT, Johnston Police Department received a tip about woman dumping the baby’s body in a dumpster at an apartment complex on Dove Street.

WAGT said that dumpster has since been picked up and taken to Twin Chimney Landfill, 11075 Augusta Road in Honea Path, SC.

Johnston Police called the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to assist in the case. According to SLED, information was developed that brought them to the landfill in Greenville County.

SLED agents are beginning to excavate an area of the landfill to recover the infant’s body, according to the agency.

SLED says that one person is in custody in Edgefield County.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is assisting SLED with the search.

Crews will be searching the landfill until the baby’s body is recovered, according to SLED.
