YANCEY CO., NC (WSPA) – Deputies in Yancey County say they have arrested a registered sex offender who is accused of child sex crimes.

According to the sheriff’s office, 53-year-old Brandon Wayne Bailey was arrested Friday and charged with Indecent Liberties with a Child and first degree Statutory Sexual Offense.

Deputies say they were alerted to the new offenses by the victim which started the investigation leading to Friday’s arrest.

“Our office is dedicated to the protection and safety of our children,” said Chief Deputy Shane Hilliard. “We will continue to investigate and pursue prosecution of any sexual offender, drug offender, or abuser that endangers a child.”

Bailey is being held in the Yancey County Detention Center on $1,000,000 bond. He will make his next court appearance on January 14.
