ANDERSON Co., S.C. (WSPA) — Deputies are investigating a shooting that left a long-time paramedic dead in Anderson County.
The victim is identified as 50-year-old Rodney Gilmer.
Gilmer was shot around 7 p.m. Monday at his home on Whirlaway Circle.
Anderson County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance that lead to a shooting.
Gilmer’s friends tell 7news his girlfriend was inside the home.
What transpired next is under investigation, but a report states Gilmer was shot in the stomach and taken to AnMed Health. The coroner’s office says Gilmer died at 7:40 p.m. Monday at the hospital.
Gilmer was a long-time paramedic who served with different agencies in the Upstate.
He was remembered Tuesday for wanting to help others.
Mark Garrett was a friend of Gilmer’s.
Garrett said Gilmer began volunteering as a teenager and worked as a police officer in Greenwood.
“He just had such a passion for fire, police and EMS and just helping others,” Garrett said.
Deputies say they spent Tuesday interviewing the woman who was in the home with Gilmer and neighbors.
No arrests or charges have been made in Gilmer’s death.
