SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – One person died in a shooting early Sunday morning near a Spartanburg County bar.

According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, first responders were called to Twerkerz Southside Bar & Grill at 1010 South Church Street in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, investigators located a man with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office has identified the victim as 29-year-old Georgio Shavonte Littlejohn, of Greenville.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.

One neighbor, who lives near the bar, said shootings are common in this area.

“My first thought was, ‘Oh, they’re over there shooting again,'” said Michael Mahaffey. “And I just went back to sleep, but within like two or three minutes I heard the sirens, well probably less than a minute. They responded pretty quickly.”

He said investigators blocked off part of South Church Street for several hours on Sunday morning. The sheriff’s office has not named a suspect or released information about what led up to the shooting.

The owner of Twerkerz Southside Bar & Grill said the shooting happened across the street from the business, in an empty lot that they do not own. She said they’re working with the sheriff’s office and sharing any security footage that could help investigators.

Some neighbors hope this incident prompts change.

“Somebody finally got killed and they should actually close the place up,” said Mahaffey.

7News reached out to the Sheriff’s Office and asked how often they receive calls to Twerkerz. While leaders could not give specifics, they said they frequently receive calls to the area.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting is under investigation.
