Neighbors in Simpsonville are reacting to the arrest of a teenager after a 9 year-old girl said someone tried to kidnap her on the way home from school.
It all started Tuesday when Greenville County deputies responded to the Saddler’s Ridge subdivision in Simpsonville.
They received a report of someone chasing a 9 year-old child just after she got off her school bus.
During the investigation, deputies learned a white SUV pulled up and dropped off a passenger.
The suspect, who remained in the SUV, then yelled at the person who had just been dropped off to “snatch her up.”
Fearing she was being kidnapped, the young girl ran.
But, the individual walking, never chased after her.
Ryan Flood with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office calls it a “sick and twisted prank.”
Flood says, “Regardless of what they think is a prank it’s taken seriously especially in this day and age in our school district, we want to make sure all the children are protected.”
Chase Mantooth, who lives in Saddler’s Ridge, says the 15 year-old “needs to learn from what he’s done and do everything he can to make amends to the family.”
The 15 year-old suspect involved has been charged with a misdemeanor.
