Smells Great! US Postal Service makes history with scratch-and-sniff stamps

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Ever since the invention of the postage stamp back in 1680, the biggest change to the design of the less than 1“ x 1“stamp has been the penny price increases every couple of years.

Well today, the United States Postal Service makes history again with the debut of this country’s first Frozen Treats Forever Scratch and Sniff postal stamp.

“The Frozen Treats stamps offer the latest innovation in stamp design, which means you can add the sweet scent of summer to your cards and letters,” said U.S. Postal Service Vice President of Finance and Planning Luke Grossmann, who will dedicate the stamps. “It’s a fun way to enjoy the stamps, but it’s even more fun to share the experience with your friends and family.”

The stamps feature illustrations of colorful, icy pops on a stick. The tasty, sweet confections come in a variety of shapes and flavors.

According to the USPS website “The booklet of 20 stamps showcases the work of Margaret Berg of Santa Monica, Calif., depicting whimsical watercolor illustrations of frozen treats. Each of the 10 stamp designs includes two different treats.”

The words “FOREVER” and “USA” appear along the bottom of each stamp.

These colorful and flavorful stamps will be dedicated Today at 6 p.m. CDT at the Thinkery children’s museum in Austin, Texas.
