Smoke from HVAC system causes brief evacuation at Hendersonville M.S.

HENDERSONVILLE, NC (WSPA) – A middle school in Western North Carolina was evacuated briefly on Tuesday morning after smoke was reported in the cafeteria area.

According to a City of Hendersonville news release, Hendersonville Fire Department crews were called to Hendersonville Middle School after smoke was reported in the cafeteria area around 10:55 a.m.

Students and faculty were evacuated from the school and Hendersonville Police Department officers helped assist the evacuation and supervision of the students, as fire crews assessed the situation.

According to the release, it was determined that the smoke came from the HVAC system above the cafeteria.

All students and faculty were safe during the incident and returned back to class at around 11:40 a.m.
