Snow in Upstate and WNC

WSPA Staff -

(WSPA)--Snow turned much of the Upstate and western North Carolina into a winter wonderland on Wednesday.

The area  remains under a winter weather advisory through Thursday morning.  The National Weather Service warns that melted snow will refreeze, creating black ice and slippery roads. Weather officials say roads that appear clear could be covered in ice.

The S.C. Department of Transportation said crews have been busy clearing the roads. As of Wednesday afternoon, 1,473 employees were working on road operations. More than 604,000 gallons of salt brine had been used, along with 3,870 tons of salt on South Carolina roadways by 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Many people saw two to three inches of snow, while there were reports of more than three inches.
