MILL SPRING, NC (WSPA) – Deputies say a woman was found dead Wednesday morning in a home in the Mill Spring community.
Polk County Sheriff Donald Hill said deputies went to the home to conduct a welfare check and found the woman dead.
Metro police said officers in Nashville arrested 27-year-old Jack Walker who showed up at a hospital with superficial scratches on his hands and said that he had tried to kill his mother and she might be dead.
Based on Walker’s account and the discovery of his mother’s 2016 Jeep in the hospital parking garage with a bloody shirt in the passenger seat, police contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and asked deputies to check on Cindy Walker.
Deputies said they found her dead in her home off Highway 9 South in Mill Spring from apparent trauma.
According to North Precinct detectives, Polk County deputies put out a homicide warrant for Jack Walker. He is charged in Nashville with being a fugitive from justice.
Walker is expected to be returned to North Carolina in the coming days.
“Keep the family in your prayers because they have a lot to deal with. You got a loss of one but then you have another individual whose life is going to be ruined now,” Sheriff Hill said.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate the woman’s death, which is ongoing at this time.
