BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) – In a show of Southern hospitality, Beaufort Mayor Billy Keyserling soothed the nerves of an irate visitor by offering to pay his parking ticket.
News outlets report the mayor received a phone call last week from a man who has visited the area for 30 years but said he wouldn’t be back after receiving a $10 ticket.
The mayor said he apologized and gave the man his mailing address.
Keyserling said he would pay the ticket if the man from Greenville promised to return next year for his vacation.
Keyserling says the man then told him that he was just letting off steam.
The mayor says he was glad to help but won’t make habit of it. So other visitors should not plan on mailing him parking tickets.
