SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Mary Buchanan is holding onto hope that her beloved cat, Spangles the Cross Eyed Kitty, will soon be home.

The Spartanburg County cat has more than 55,000 Facebook fans and over 21,000 followers on Instagram.

Mary said Spangles disappeared about two weeks ago.

Mary was renovating the bathroom and thinks that Spangles may have escaped through the dryer vent. He was spotted about a week ago by her boyfriend’s children.

She’s placed food and water around her Una home and traps around the house and has visited the Spartanburg Humane Society in hopes of finding him. But he wasn’t there.

“I just don’t know where he could be,” Mary said Friday.

She is holding onto hope that he’s going to be home with her soon.

“I don’t feel like he’s gone forever.”

Mary has had Spangles since he was a small kitten. He was born on July 4th – hence the name Spangles.

He has fans as far away as Australia.

“He just makes people happy,” Mary said.

She said she gets messages from people who are going through chemotherapy and other personal hardships about how his adorable face fills them with cheer.

“I could be in the worst mood ever and just look at him and smile,” Mary said.

Even people who aren’t fans of cats, are fans of Spangles.

“He just makes people happy and he spreads joy,” she said.

Spangles could be in the Una area.

Mary said he’s very skittish. He’s not wearing a collar. Mary said she took his collar off the night he went missing. She’s worried about the heat.

“I miss him so much, she said.
