Spartanburg Co. Council discuss $103M in economic development projects

SPARTANBURG Co., SC (WSPA) – More than $103 million in economic investment for development projects were voted on during Monday’s Spartanburg County Council meeting.

Councilman David Britt heads the economic recruitment and development committee.

He said Project Serrano is about $23 million and Project Wonderland is valued at around $22 million, while two other projects projected $10 million in economic investment each.

The items were on the agenda for fee-in-lieu-of tax agreements.

“At 6 percent which we typically do, all we’re doing is lowering the playing field – making it a little more competitive for us. That tax bill for that $100 million investment is still $2.2 million…We make things in Spartanburg County and that’s great but we also make relationships too and I think that says a lot about who we are as a county. It’s a great place to invest, to work, and to play,” Britt said.

He added that Spartanburg County had close to $800 million in economic development projects so far this year, which meant thousands of jobs.

Council voted to move forward with all the projects on Monday night.
