Hurricane Michael derailed a Spartanburg couple’s wedding plans. They were forced to cancel their destination wedding in Florida, which was planned for October 12th.
“It seemed perfect to me,” Stephanie Woodard said. “I could see walking down the beach in my wedding gown to get married.”
She and her fiancé, Greg Lawson, got engaged in Myrtle Beach, and say an intimate beach wedding was the perfect tie-in to their engagement story.
“I caught her off guard we were picking up seashells. I picked the ring out of the sand,” Lawson said.
As Hurricane Michael rolled in, they were forced to postpone their wedding.
“It was devastating,” Woodard says. “Eventually once I processed through it, it was easy to see that we were protected in not going down there and there was a better plan that was going to come out of this.”
Now, they’ve switched gears from the beach to the mountains and decided to marry in Tennessee instead in late October.
“That was where we took our first trip together so it does have some special significance to us,” Woodard explained.
They say they are just glad they are safe and are chalking this up to an eventful start to the adventure.
