SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) — A Spartanburg man faces charges after he was accused of slapping a child several times and threatening to run over the boy’s mother.

Larry Dean Brown, 25, is charged with child neglect and third-degree domestic violence, according to jail records.

A woman told police that her son called and asked her to pick him up from Brown’s home on Friday morning.

A Spartanburg police report says Brown later called and asked to meet so he could get his son back.

The victim said they met at the Jack in the Box on W.O. Ezell Boulevard. She told police Brown was cursing and yelling when he arrived and struck the boy with an open palm several times before grabbing his arm and dragging him to the car that Brown arrived in.

The boy’s mother threatened to call police and stood behind Brown’s car to prevent them from leaving.

Brown told his girlfriend to run over the victim with the car, according to the report. When the driver refused, he reportedly told her he would do it and they switched seats.

The victim told police she feared he would run her over and he threatened to beat her. The victim told Brown she was calling police and that if he touched her she would beat him up.

Brown left the scene.

He was later arrested and booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
