Spartanburg School District 2 has new public safety communications system

News

SPARTANBURG Co., S.C. (WSPA) — An Upstate school district is using new technology to contact first responders during emergencies.

Spartanburg County School District Two announced Tuesday that all 15 schools are now equipped with mobile phones that can access FirstNet.

The system allows school employees to communicate with each other and first responders during an emergency without concern about congested phone lines.

School district officials said itโ€™s the first in South Carolina to use FirstNet.

โ€œWe see violent attacks happening in schools across our country at an alarming rate. Giving our administrators and other personnel who have primary roles in protecting our Districtโ€™s students access to FirstNet is a significant step in our safety procedures,โ€ Superintendent Scott Mercer said in a statement.
