St. Augustine’s student shot near campus, suspects in custody


RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN)- A Saint Augustine’s student was injured early Wednesday morning in a shooting near campus, the university said.

Shelley Willingham-Hinton, an official at Saint Augustine’s, said a shooting was reported Wednesday around 1 a.m.

University police and Raleigh Police reported to the school, which was placed on a brief lockdown Wednesday morning.

Police officers apprehended the suspects.

Willingham-Hinton said one student was injured and taken to WakeMed where they were in stable condition.

The university said the shooting was an isolated incident and there was no further threat to campus.

The lockdown was lifted and classes were expected to resume as normal at 8 a.m.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The names of the victim or suspects were not immediately released.
