Store owner says company copied BBQ t-shirt design

Barbeque is a big deal across the Carolinas and one North Carolina clothing designer says his barbeque-inspired t-shirt design was stolen.

House of Swank owner John Pugh says he created the design of the state of North Carolina split in two. One half of the state reads “tomato,” the other reads “vinegar.”

Pugh says he created the design referencing different styles of barbeque five years ago, but says he saw the design on a Tervis at Bed Bath & Beyond, without his permission.

The company has since released a statement saying it will pull the product off shelves and the website during an investigation.
