Student asleep in video of Upstate educator says teacher was ‘playing,’ report says

WILLIAMSTON, SC (WSPA) – A police report filed after a video showing an Anderson County teacher standing on a desk trying to wake up a student went viral, states that neither the student or the student’s parents believed the teacher had any ill motives during the incident.

According to the report filed with Williamston Police Department, a video showed Lisa Houston standing on a desk trying to wake a student by pushing the student up with her foot, tapping his face and pulling his hair.

School administrators reportedly told authorities they spoke with the student and his parents on May 1, and they did not feel the teacher had abusive or ill motives.

On May 2, the student told police that the teacher was “playing” around and trying to wake him up.

“The student stressed that the teacher wasn’t angry, nor was she trying to hurt him,” according to the report.

The student’s father said in a statement that he did not feel like the teacher was trying to injure or attempting to hurt his son, and said he felt like the incident was done in humor and not meant for ill intent.
