Supervisor disciplined following Asheville use of force probe files suit

ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA) – An Asheville Police Department supervisor that the department disciplined for allegedly not following protocol in the Johnnie Rush beating case is now firing back.

A lawyer for Sgt. Lisa Taube said they plan to sue the city and the police department for false and defamatory statements.

The department said that Taube never reviewed the body camera footage regarding the beating of Rush, but her lawyer said she did her job.

The arresting officer for Rush — Chris Hickman — is now facing three charges in relation to Rush’s assault.
