ANDERSON, SC (WSPA) – Anderson police said a suspect in a stolen vehicle is in custody after an officer was hurt during a police chase on Thursday.
Anderson Police Capt. Mike Aikens said there was a brief chase when officers attempted to stop a driver in a vehicle that was reported stolen.
Chief Jim Stewart said during the chase, the suspect vehicle hit another vehicle at the intersection of Greenville and Main Street.
A police officer in the chase was trying to clear wreckage and was hit by another vehicle.
That officer was taken to AnMed Health. His condition is unknown at this time.
Stewart said a second officer continued to chase the stolen vehicle on Main Street when the suspect’s vehicle became disabled.
The suspect attempted to run away, but was apprehended by officers.
Police identified the suspect as Shamarcus Tyrell Adams.
The 25-year-old is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights, and resisting arrest.
7 News is told the officer is expected to be OK.
