Suspect in Upstate kidnapping, deadly shooting may be headed to NC


PICKENS, S.C. (WSPA) — A man is wanted in an early-morning shooting and kidnapping in the Upstate.

Pickens City Police Department is searching for Marco Vaught.

Police say Vaught kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, Rebecca Purry, and shot another victim around 1 a.m. Wednesday, April 17.

The shooting victim later died, according to police. 

The Pickens County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 54-year-old Claudette Purry. The coroner says she was shot inside her home and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she died a few hours later.

Vaught is wanted on charges of murder and kidnapping. 

Police say he’s considered armed and dangerous. 

Vaught may be headed to Tabor City, N.C.

He was last seen with the victim in a black 2000 GMC Denali with NC license plate FLM9930.

Police say Vaught, 36, is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds and has a prosthetic left arm.

The victim, 28-year-old Rebecca Purry, is 5 feet 4 inches and weighs 145 pounds, according to police.
