Teen attempted murder suspect on the run in Hendersonville

HENDERSONVILLE, NC (WSPA) – Hendersonville police are asking for your help to find an armed and dangerous attempted murder suspect.

Nathaniel Charles Smith, 17, is charged with:

  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious bodily injury
  • Discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling

Police got a call of shots fired in the area of Holmes Street around 4:43 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28.

They say they didn’t find anything when they got there, but received a call from Pardee Hospital about a patient with a gunshot wound.

At the hospital they found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

They have charged Smith in that shooting.

Detective Brandon McGaha said Smith hid near the victim’s home and waited until the victim opened the door. That’s when police say Smith and friends opened fire on the victim – firing several shots at the victim and into the house.

Police say he’s threatened others since the shooting and is considered armed and dangerous. They warn people not to approach Smith, and immediately call police.

The Hendersonville Police Department asks anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts or with further information about this shooting contact us at 828-697-3025.
