A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Saturday morning in Greenville County.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, a woman was driving a 2015 Chevy Cruze south on SC 81 near Washington Avenue at about 6:25 a.m.

Troopers said a woman was sitting in the left westbound lane of Anderson Road in front of Highway 81 Motors and was hit by the vehicle. The coroner’s office said she had been interfering with traffic prior to the crash and causing vehicles to move around her.

The driver of the vehicle did not see the woman sitting in the roadway because of rain and darkness, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office identified the victim as 16-year-old Shakira Shylen Hampton.

The driver was not injured, according to troopers. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
