One teen is dead after a two vehicle head-on crash in Cherokee County Wednesday afternoon.
According to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler, James Calvin Ross, 17 of Blacksburg was involved in an accident around 2 p.m. when his car crossed over the center line and hit an SUV head on.
The report says that Ross was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV got out of the vehicle before the collision and the passenger was not hurt.
Fowler says the victim’s family attributed little sleep overnight before driving Wednesday as a potential reason for the crash.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday to continue the investigation into this fatality.
Fowler also reports that this is the 12th traffic death of the year in Cherokee County.
