Rain has pushed back a traffic shift scheduled to start early Tuesday. Now engineers are hoping to have it done later in the day.
The Gateway project is focused on improving I-85 and I-385 in Greenville. Work crews are planning to open a temporary ramp connecting Woodruff Road to I-385 northbound so they can remove the current ramp. Engineers will assess the situation later on Tuesday and decide whether to open the lanes. The temporary ramp will be in place for about 8 months.
The biggest part of the project will involving building new bridges and flyovers at the intersection of I-85 and I-385 to improve traffic congestion.
Improvements will also be made to nearby roads like Woodruff and Roper Mountain Road. Most of the work should be done by 2019.
