SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – The Spartanburg County Coroner and the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a man’s body was found Monday evening.
Deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of Parker Road at about 5:30 p.m.
Neighbors who called 911 tell 7News the body was on fire when they found it.
“I thought someone had set the woods on fire so I got my neighbor beside me and we went down there and we saw it,” Gayle Trammell said. “We thought it was a mannequin to start with. But when I started seeing the other stuff, I knowed it was human.”
Investigators have not confirmed whether the body was burned.
The coroner’s office identified the man as 21-year-old Travis Scott McCall, Jr. of Enoree.
McCall’s death has been ruled a homicide.
GoFundMe on Wednesday reached out to 7News and shared a verified fundraiser to help the McCall family with funeral costs. You can find it here.
The investigation is active and ongoing. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
