Transylvania Co. deputy injured in dog attack during call


TRANSYLVANIA CO., NC (WSPA) – A Transylvania County deputy is in the hospital after he was injured in a dog attack while responding to a call Monday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was responding to a disturbance call at a home on East Fork Road just before 5:00pm when he was attacked.

The deputy did fire a shot from his weapon and was grazed in the hand by the bullet.

The Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville with serious but non life-threatening injuries, a majority of which came from the dog.

The deputy is expected to undergo emergency surgery for his injuries.

Deputies say the dog has died.
