Travelers Rest man dies after being dropped off at Upstate fire station

MARIETTA, S.C. (WSPA) — A man who was brought to a Greenville County fire station bruised and semi-conscious died there despite efforts to save him.

Slater-Marietta Fire Chief Marion Cruell said a man was brought to the fire department in a pickup truck around 6:15 a.m. Friday. 

Chief Cruell said the man, semi-conscious and with bruises on his body, went into cardiac arrest. 

They performed CPR but the man died at the scene. 

Greenville County Senior Deputy Coroner Kent Dill said Matthew David Jones, 38, of Travelers Rest, was pronounced dead at about 6:57 a.m. at the fire department. 

The coroner’s office will continue to investigate Jones’ death. 

An autopsy was perfomed on Friday to determine the cause of death. The coroner’s office said the cause and manner of death are pending final autopsy results.
