GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A shooting in Travelers Rest on Monday was self-defense, according to the Greenville Co. Sheriff’s Office.
The man who was shot, Jason Paul Sikkila, 40, has been arrested and charged with Assault & Battery 3rd degree and Stalking, according to warrants.
The shooting happened on Sam Langley Drive around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Sikkila initially ran from the home after he was shot, and was found hours later by deputies near Pine Log Ford Road.
According to a neighbor, Dennis Cameron, the man who fired the gun and Sikkila are both contractors who live in the nearby area.
Cameron said the man who pulled the trigger called 911 shortly after the incident to report the shooting.
The sheriff’s office says Sikkila drove to the man’s home and started an argument.
The man demanded Sikkila leave, but he refused and attacked the victim while the man was sitting in a vehicle, according to the report.
The man got a firearm that was in his truck and shot Sikkila at least one time.
Sikkila ran and deputies found him a short time later.
He was treated at the hospital and released.
He was then taken to the detention center where he remains on a temporary bond.
Investigators say Sikkila and the victim have know each other for a period of time.
