OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Troopers are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed Saturday morning on I-85 Southbound in Oconee County.
The crash happened near Exit 3 at about 8:14 a.m., troopers say.
The pedestrian was walking southbound on I-85 when they were struck from behind by an unknown vehicle, according to SCHP.
The Oconee County Coroner says the body was found adjacent to the southbound lane of I-85 near Fair Play, and the incident appears to be a hit-and run-fatality.
The decedent had no identification present on his person, the coroner said.
With the assistance of the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, digital fingerprints were obtained at the scene that identified the victim as 53-year-old Lanny N. Mest, who had a Williamsburg, Kentucky address.
It is unknown where he may have been residing at in Oconee County or why he was in proximity of I-85 at Fair Play.
