(WFLA) – Tropical Depression #3 has formed well off the coast of North Carolina, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The center of the newly formed tropical depression is moving toward the north-northwest around 5 mph.
The NHC says the depression should slow down and meander well offshore the coast of North Carolina through Monday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph with higher gusts.
The depression is forecast to become a tropical storm on Saturday, with gradual strengthening expected through Monday.
A reconnaissance plane is scheduled to investigate the cyclone on Saturday.
There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but interests along the coast of North Carolina should monitor the storm.
