Two Dead After Motorcycle Collides With Truck Near Chesnee

Two people are dead after a motorcycle collided head-on with a pick-up truck near Chesnee, Monday night.

Heather Lane Guffey, 26 of Chesnee, and Mark Jonathan Petty, 26 of Gaffney, were riding on a motorcycle headed north on S.C. Highway 221 shortly after 7 p.m. when “Petty’s motorcycle crossed the centerline for an unknown reason and struck a 1998 Ford pick-up truck headed south,” according to the Cherokee County Coroner, Denis Fowler.

Following impact, Petty and Guffey were ejected from the motorcycle. Guffey died on the scene and Petty was transported to the Spartanburg Regional Hospital where he later died just after 8 p.m.

The front passenger in the pick-up truck was also taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment. The driver and another passenger were not injured, according to Fowler.

The Cherokee County Coroner’s office and South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing its investigation into the accident.
